Mission Statement The mission of CPMA Jazz program is to provide excellence in academic and professional career preparation for the challenges facing today's musician. Our mission is fulfilled by combining the study of all styles of jazz music with strong emphasis on quality musicianship in solo, combo and large group settings. Additionaly, the program provides a supportive environment for the study and teaching of jazz music. The jazz program at CPMA represents the contexts and challenges encountered by contemporary musicians.
Course Discription Jazz Band is designed to provide students with a well-rounded view of jazz music as a performer and as an audience, using curriculum guided by the California Music Standards. Students will study various musical styles and genres throughout the year. Assignments will include technique, theory, class participation, written tests and performances. CPMA Middle School Jazz program is an active program dedicated to giving students the opportunity to grow musically, socially and academically. Through musical performance, students learn how to work together to achieve common goals and develop group discipline and respect for fellow students. Students learn to focus on goals and achievements that are more than personal as well as self-discipline. Through the study of jazz, students develop skill that will allow them to truly understand and appreciate the foundation of music as well as the aesthetics.
