Here's the weekly event schedule for all things CPMA Music:

  • Smart Muisic Make-Up Exams - Monday and Tuesday after school in Room 504. Students from the Concert Band will be able to take, or re-take the Essential Elements exam (#18 in the book). There is a late bus for Tuesday. If you would like to check the exam grades, please login here.
  • Music Booster Meeting
    • The meeting will begin at 6:00, and will cover a variety of topics. We need great parent turnout (this means you)!
    • We will be discussing, among other items: the Shanghai Symphony Field Trip on November 19th, music coaches for Jazz Band/Wind Ensemble/String Orchestra, the district's recent spending freeze, volunteer clearance procedures, and yes, the nomination of officers for 2009-10.
  • Viola Coaching with Thomas Morgan (San Diego Symphony)
    • Thomas Morgan, violist from the San Diego Symphony will be at CPMA on Tuesday afternoon to work with our beginning and intermediate viola players. He is generously offering his time, and we should all be thankful to have someone of his caliber working with our (very fortunate) students.
  • Orchestra Winds Rehearsal
  • Shanghai Symphony
    • CPMA has acquired 25 tickets to the November 19th Shanghai Symphony concert, at Copley Symphony Hall. Special thanks to our partner in education, the La Jolla Music Society (and Educational Director Hannes Kling) for their generosity.
    • Tickets will be offered on a first come, first serve basis - first to the intermediate/advanced orchestra, then to music students at large. To secure tickets, students should return the permission slip and attendance verification form (available this week).
  • San Diego Youth Symphony Concert - Sunday
    • The San Diego Youth Symphony will hold a concert on Sunday, November 8th. The concert will be held at the California Center for the Arts, and will begin at 4:00 (map and directions may be found here). A number of current and former CPMA students will be performing (i.e. Emily Sevendsen, Itzayana Ocampo, Tim Wagner, Taylor Carlson, Chenelle Barrett-McClain).
    • Tickets are still available, and the program looks to be a very strong one!

Again, please use the Calendar on the website to stay up to date. November and December will certainly prove to be very busy months. Finally, please enjoy the photos from Band Night at Madison High School. And yes, these

Update: Madison High School Band Night Letter has now been attached. Permission slips went out Friday the 2nd.

Playing Exams

Many classes will be taking their first playing examination of the year on Monday, October 5th. Please check for specific assignments at the appropriate link below:

Every student can achieve if he or she so desires. Tim Gunn would simply say, "Make it work." Here's another, more detailed, perspective:

“I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion
to the things you want to see happen.”
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867 – 1959), American Architect

PantherPanther Spirit Rally - Tuesday, October 6th

CPMA will be hosting a pep rally on October 6th to kick off the academic year! The Wind Ensemble and Intermediate Percussion students will be providing some of the music as our students arrive! Students will be dismissed from a portion of 1st Period, and will also be participants in the rally during 2nd, 4th, and 5th Periods.

This represents our first performance of the year, and I am looking forward to sharing our music and enthusiasm with the CPMA Community.
