Also, thank you to those individuals who have already become CPMA Music Sponsors! The more sponsors we have, the better off we will be. It seems the "Director's Circle" is a popular choice, given all the perks. However, every contribution makes a difference - and is tax deductible!
Sponsorship letters and forms have been attached. It takes a community of supporters to make music education possible!

Per the usual, lots going on:
- Sponsorship Drive - The CPMA Music Department sponsorship drive has begun! Every contribution, large or small will help ensure that our students have the materials, resources, and opportunities they so deserve. Every contribution will be listed in our concert programs this year, and many sponsorship levels now have added "perks"!
The sponsorship letter and form has been attached below. Help us reach our goal of 100 contributors or more!
- Debut Strings Quiz - The beginning strings class is taking a playing quiz on a small portion of one of their Winter Concert Selections. Testing will continue throughout the week as necessary. The assessment rubric used to evaluate performances is available on CPMA Middle, under the class homework section.
- Orchestra Winds Rehearsal - Thursday after school for those Wind Ensemble students participating in the full orchestra selection.
- Shanghai Symphony Concert - Students attending the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra concert Thursday should be at CPMA no later that 6:45. The bus will load at 7:00 and will depart shortly thereafter. Information on the concert is available here.
Obviously, next week is Thanksgiving Break. Both Mr. Ciavarelli and myself would like to wish everyone a happy, food-filled break. When we return, we will be very busy. The dress rehearsal schedule was posted here last week. As a courtesy, here it is below:
- Monday, November 30th - Orchestra Winds & Percussion
- Tuesday, December 1st - Debut Strings dress rehearsal (also a Booster Meetingat 6:30pm)
- Wednesday, December 2nd - String Orchestra dress rehearsal
- Thursday, December 3rd - Concert Band dress rehearsal
- Friday, December 4th - Full Orchestra dress rehearsal
- Monday, December 7th - Wind Ensemble dress rehearsal
Rehearsals that are on Tuesday and Thursday will have late buses. Those days have been reserved for the beginning classes, as they have the most students, and the least experience dealing with dress rehearsals. Rehearsals for the Orchestra Winds, String Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble occur on days without late buses. Dress rehearsals are held for the benefit of our students, and learning how to conduct oneself in a concert setting is an important skill. Please make appropriate arrangements ahead of time.
Again, please make every effort to seek out sponsors for the music department. The district is in a delicate financial state, and every penny contributed via the sponsorship drive will directly impact what the music department can provide for our students. Help us make the CPMA Music experience everything it can and should be for our student-musicians. Thank You!

Beginning Viola Players with Thomas Morgan (San Diego Symphony)
Here's the Weekly Update for November 9th:
This past week was a busy one for CPMA students. There were make up exams for Concert Band students after school on Monday and Tuesday, a visit from San Diego Symphony violist Thomas Morgan on Tuesday, an Orchestra Winds rehearsal on Thursday afternoon, and of course, a San Diego Youth Symphony Concert on Sunday.
This week promises to have a number of opportunities, and of course, info on upcoming events. So, here's whats going on:
- CPMA's Got Talent - See a number of our music students perform in CPMA's annual Talent Show, CPMA's Got Talent. The show begins Tuesday at 6:30, and tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students with an ASB sticker, and $4 for students without ASB. All are welcome to attend!
- Orchestra Winds Rehearsal - Wind Ensemble students who intend on performing in this concert's Symphony Orchestra selection have rehearsal Thursday at 4:00 in Room 504.
- Shanghai Symphony - Permission slips for the field trip next Thursday evening are due. We have a limited number of tickets, so the first 22 students to turn in the slip will receive tickets!
- Winter Concert - The dates for the Winter Concert have been posted. The Dress Rehearsal (and Concert) schedule for all groups has been attached below. Please make every effort to ensure your student's attendance at these events.
- Sponsorship and Financial Information - Letters regarding the current district budget freeze and CPMA Music Sponsorship will be distributed Thusday and Friday in class. All information will also be posted here, at cpmamusic.com.
Finally, let me introduce your 2009-10 CPMA Music Booster Executive Board! These individuals will need your help to ensure this year is a memorable one for your students.
- President - Jennifer Burgess
- Vice President of Fundraising - Tracy Cherry
- Vice President of Events - Drew Miller
- Secretary - Theresa Fox
- Treasurer - Claudia Johnson
Please check for more updates later in the week (especially regarding sponsorship and the current budget freeze).
